Macalester Plymouth Preschool is a caring and supportive preschool environment for children ages 3, 4, and 5. Our highly qualified licensed early childhood educators nurture creativity and curiosity and encourage the exploration of new ideas and experiences.

We are centrally located in Saint Paul’s Macalester-Groveland neighborhood, just steps away from Macalester College. 

At Macalester Plymouth Preschool, we believe learning starts at the social/emotional level. We all learn at different levels and develop at different paces but need the basic skills on a social and emotional level to build a base to be successful academically. Being a compassionate friend, a good listener, and being introduced to the wonders of the world are great ways to start your child's learning experience and prepare them for kindergarten.

Self-regulation and building confidence are also very important for kindergarten readiness. Sociodramatic play is a great way for students to see the perspective of others. It also teaches them how to negotiate and work through conflict. Academics will come naturally later when they develop a strong base of self-regulation and social/emotional tools. Being uniquely themselves will give them the confidence to achieve their goals when they are ready!

We feel that it is increasingly important for young children to develop a global consciousness. Through art, music, books, and special programs, we sow the seeds of cultural awareness that result in a respect toward, and joy in diversity. Our goal is for the children to accept and appreciate all people.

We also understand that children care about our world and all its creatures. They celebrate and delight in the mysteries of earth, sea and sky. Our program is designed to encourage compassion for the planet. When children leave this program, we hope they will take with them a love of the Earth that will grow with them into adulthood.

Macalester Plymouth Preschool was founded in 1965 when members of Macalester Plymouth Church recognized the need for a preschool program in the area.  As a form of service to the community, the preschool was established. While started by a church community and located in a church building, the preschool is non-religious in nature. A Board of Directors is responsible for the general administration of the preschool, and all decisions are approved and finalized by it.
